  3. Para-Counselling (WSQ) Course Objectives:
    Learners will be able to acquire skills, attitude and knowledge to provide para-counselling to clients within an agreed counselling framework. It includes supporting certified counselling professionals in their daily work and supporting the implementation of appropriate para-counselling approaches.
    The learner will be able to achieve the following learning outcomes upon completion of para-counselling training:
    LO1: Identify the roles of a para-counsellor
    LO2: Describe the guiding principles and ethical issues of counselling
    LO3: Explain theories and techniques of 6 counselling therapies
    LO4: Apply communication techniques when interacting with clients
    LO5: Apply integrative approach in counselling
    LO6: Apply counselling skills to meet client’s needs in different settings

    • Introduction to Counselling
    • Ethical issues in counselling practice
    • Theories and techniques of Counselling Key concepts, the therapeutic process and application of therapies

  8. Minimum Entry Requirements:
    1. GCE ‘N’ Level
    2. Demonstrate English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills at a proficiency level not lower than the ES WSQ Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 4
    3. Assumed Attitude, Skills and Knowledge. Learners are assumed to have the following skills, knowledge and attitude:
      1. Positive attitude towards learning and ability to communicate with team members effectively
      2. Willingness to help and serve people
    4. Potential learners who do not meet the abovementioned requirements but possess the relevant job experience, and/or have the passions to serve the social service sector, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
